Bernards Twp. Police To Start Releasing Blotter On Weekly Basis

There was discussion among residents and township committee members about the releasing of the town's police blotter.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Police plans to start providing weekly highlights of police activity.

During Tuesday's Committee Meeting, one resident questioned why the police do not release a police blotter on a consistent basis.

He even noted that when a report is shared it is weeks after the event.

Committee members also discussed this topic and suggested asking the police department to start releasing the blotter on a weekly basis.

"We are actually currently working on a police blotter where we will give weekly highlights on our Facebook page of arrests, significant events, etc.," said Bernards Township Police Chief Mike Shimsky. "As always, we will continue to be providing releases to the press for major incidents of interest."

Currently, the department does not release a police blotter on a weekly basis. The last time police posted about a criminal matter on its Facebook page was on Feb. 15 following the disappearance of a 19-year-old township woman who was later found dead.
