Man Hit, Killed By Train Identified As Somerset County Resident

A Bernardsville man was identified by authorities as the man who was fatally hit by a train this past weekend.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A Bernardsville man was identified as the man who was hit and killed by a train this past weekend in Basking Ridge.

Stanislaw Chrapowicki, 53, of Bernardsville was fatally hit by the Gladstone Branch train 723 on the Morris & Essex Line in Basking Ridge on Saturday at around 1:45 p.m., said NJ Transit Spokesman Evertt Merrill on Monday.

The train had left Summit at 12:14 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Gladstone at 2:08 p.m. before hitting Chrapowicki, said Merrill.

There were no reported injuries to the one customer and crew members on board, said Merrill.

As a result, the Gladstone rail service was temporarily suspended between Stirling and Bernardsville on the Gladstone Branch. NJ Transit buses were offered to impacted customers.
