Burglars Broke Back Window To Get Inside Basking Ridge Home

A suspicious and unknown man was also spotted on a home camera smoking a cigarette on the homeowner's porch in a separate incident: Police.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Someone broke in through the back window of a Basking Ridge home and stole items, police said.

On Sept. 17 at about 7:53 p.m. a burglar alarm near the 50 block of Van Houlten Road went off. When police arrived they noticed a rear screen removed from a first floor back window and the back window broken, Bernards Township Police said.

Officers checked the home and nearby homes but the alleged burglars had left the area, police said.

Items removed from the home are unknown at this time and the homeowner is compiling a list.

On Sept. 18 at about 4:58 p.m.: A resident of the 40 block of Knollcroft Road reported that some time between noon and 1 p.m. of the same day, the victim left their vehicle unlocked with their keys and wallet in the center console while they practiced hitting golf balls at the practice range. While there, the victim began receiving texts messages alerting them to fraudulent activity occurring on their credit cards. This prompted them to return to their vehicle and inspect it. They learned that a suspect or suspects had taken about $80 to $200, a tennis bag and two Babolot tennis rackets and a new folding golf cart. The victim advised their total loss was about $750.

On Sept. 18 at about 7 p.m.: A resident of the 100 block of Goltra Drive reported a suspicious incident that occurred at 4:30 p.m. the same day involving an unknown white man who walked up his front yard and proceeded to smoke a cigarette on the resident’s front porch. The unknown man was caught on the homeowners "Ring" camera and was wearing jeans and an orange shirt. The unknown male never knocks or rings the doorbell he was observed due to the motion sensor of the device. Residents are asked to contact the police when they are alerted of such things so that the police can investigate and attempt to identify any possible individuals.

On Sept. 20 at about 3:45 a.m.: Officer Mulhall stopped a silver four door Hyundai on I-78 westbound for a series of motor vehicle violations which included travelling well below the speed limit. Upon stopping the vehicle, Mulhall learned that the driver was a juvenile from Reading, Pennsylvania who thought it might be a good idea to learn to drive before getting their permit to drive. While speaking with the juvenile driver, Mulhall asked if there was anything in the car that should not be there. The juvenile voluntarily told Mulhall that he had in his possession marijuana. A search of the vehicle was conducted and about 87.5 grams of marijuana was found. The juvenile was processed, charged and released to his parent.

On Sept. 22 at about 2:30 p.m.: A resident of the 10 block of Madisonville Road area reported a theft and burglary to a shed located on the property. The resident reported a 10-year-old Craftsman ride on lawn mower which they had used the day before to mow their lawn was missing. The resident stated he believed the mower was valued at about $500. There are no suspects at this time.
