2 Arrested In Bomb Threat During World Cup Soccer Match At MetLife Stadium, Police Say

A man and woman are accused of making the bomb threat during the Brazil-Norway World Cup match Sunday, authorities said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a bomb threat called in against MetLife Stadium during a World Cup match on Sunday, police said.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, the New Jersey State Police were notified by Bergen County officials about a bomb threat sent via text message "targeting FIFA," said New Jersey State Trooper Charles Marchan.

The threat was sent just minutes into the Brazil vs. Norway match that began at 4 p.m. (Norway won 2-1).

Marchan said that in response to the threat, state and local police "immediately implemented protective security measures to strengthen the security posture at all venues throughout the Meadowlands Sports Complex" out of an abundance of caution.

Police traced the phone number and determined that the text was sent from a vehicle that had been at the Sports Complex at the time, Marchan said.

The vehicle was then traced to Jersey City, where police were notified.

Jersey City police found and stopped the vehicle on Bergen Avenue, Marchan said.

Police searched the vehicle as well as the home of a Jersey City resident, Amar Ramkisson, Marchan said. No explosives were found.

Ramkisson was charged with terroristic threats and false public alarm, Marchan said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail.

After further investigation, Breanna Rampersad was charged with hindering and tampering with evidence, Marchan said. She was released to await a court date.

Marchan did not answer further questions about a possible motive, or details about those arrested. He said no further details were available as of Tuesday.

A Jersey City spokesperson declined to comment.

Secaucus police also received a threat to the stadium, Police Chief Dennis Miller said. He declined to release additional details.
