- Day alert: Keep an eye on the changes in and around your home. Speak with neighbors to be especially vigilant during this time of year. Report suspicious activity to the police immediately by calling 908-766-1122.
- Lighting: Make sure you leave lights on outside during the night. This makes it convenient for you to view the movements outside and at night and will also keep the burglar away. Also consider leaving lights inside the home on timers.
- Avoid an empty and dark home look: You should give your home a lived-in look. Burglars tend to target empty and dark residences and plan burglaries when there are signs of piled newspapers, filled mail boxes and unclean surroundings. If you're leaving your home for a few days make sure you stop the delivery of newspapers and mail. Consider installing motion sensors for outdoor lighting.
