Join us for a special lecture with Gil Harel as he explores Stephen Sondheim's Assassins—one of musical theater's most provocative and thought-provoking works. Through its unforgettable score and daring storytelling, Assassins examines the lives, motives, and myths of those who sought to change American history. Whether you're a lifelong Sondheim fan or discovering the musical for the first time, this engaging presentation will offer fresh insights into a modern masterpiece. 
Presenter: Gil Harel (PhD, Brandeis University) is an award-winning musicologist and composer whose interests include styles ranging from western art music to contemporary musical theater. He is Full Professor of Music at CT State Naugatuck Valley, where he conducts the college chorale, a cappella ensemble, teaches music history and theory, and serves as musical director of theater productions.

Bishop Janes United Methodist Church will install an interfaith prayer wall at the Lyons train station on the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11.

The wall stands beside the existing memorial plaque bearing the names of the Bernards Township residents killed that day. The wall is meant as a place for commuters and neighbors to stop and write a prayer.

Its center is left open for handwritten notes, echoing the paper-covered fences and station walls that appeared across the region in the weeks after the attacks. Prayers from seven traditions run down the sides: Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and one written for people who do not pray..

The wall stands through the weekend. Every prayer left there will be placed on the altar during worship at Bishop Janes on Sunday, September 13 at 9:30 AM.

On the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11, Bishop Janes United Methodist Church opens its sanctuary to anyone who wants a quiet place to sit.
From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, there is no program and no service. The doors are unlocked and the room is quiet. Come and go as you need.
At 12:00 PM, a thirty-minute midday prayer service. The names of the eighteen Bernards Township residents who died that morning will be read aloud. The service includes readings from Psalm 121 and from Micah 4, where the prophet looks toward a day when nations beat their swords into plowshares and no longer learn war. 
Come for the quiet, for the service, or for both. Everyone is welcome and no church affiliation is expected.
The community remembrance ceremony at Harry Dunham Park follows at 6:00 PM.

The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and is designed to bring the community together to raise awareness about substance use disorders, celebrate recovery, and connect individuals and families with local treatment and recovery resources.All registered participants will receive an official Operation Helping Hand: Running for Recovery 5K finisher medal, a commemorative event T-shirt, and a complimentary post-race ice cream. Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three male and female finishers in each age division. Children ages 7 and under are invited to participate in the Kids Dash at no cost.In addition to the 5K run and walk, attendees can enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities and public safety demonstrations. The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit will conduct a demonstration at 10:30 a.m., and the Somerset County SWAT vehicle will be on display throughout the event.More than just a race, the Running for Recovery 5K is a community outreach event that promotes hope, healing, and support for those impacted by addiction. Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to walk or run in support of recovery while helping reduce the stigma surrounding substance use disorder.Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to visit resource tables featuring treatment providers, recovery support organizations, prevention agencies, and community partners. Families can also explore interactive displays from local law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations.“Recovery is a journey that no one should have to face alone,” said Somerset County Prosecutor John P.
