Environmental Education Center Programs

April 16 to April 22

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5322. or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org

PARENT/CHILD PROGRAMS

Spring into Action – NEW PROGRAM!

Friday, April 20 from10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will take a short hike to seek out the

early signs of spring followed by springtime crafts, activities, and a

story.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.

CHILDREN/TEEN PROGRAMS

Frog Blob

Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Children ages 7 to 9 will join a Naturalist on a search of frog blobs, tadpoles, and frogs in the Great Swamp at the end of winter.

Fee is $9 per person.

FAMILY/ADULT PROGRAMS

CAN-U-CANNU

Thursday, April 19 from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.

Prepare for EEC river trips with an introductory class on basic paddling techniques, safety, and handling a canoe in and out of the water.

Fee is $14 per person.

Secrets in Somerset County – Bluebell Magic – FREE PROGRAM

Friday, April 20 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist to explore one of the

wonders of Duke Island Park, the blooming of bluebell

wildflowers.

The session is free.

Bluebird Walk

Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for a walk on the trails

of Lord Stirling Park to seek the beautiful eastern bluebird on its

spring migration.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free. Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
