Environmental Education Center Programs

April 23 to April 29, 2018

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5322. or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org

Saturday, April 28 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 - Is natural science a subject you find interesting?

Do you like the outdoors? Is the Great Swamp a place you like to

visit? If so, join the Environmental Education Center Naturalists

and contribute your talents to fun and educational projects and

special events.

FAMILY/ADULT PROGRAMS

Birding at Brig

Tuesday, April 24 from 10:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.

Adult birders will travel to Forsyth National Wildlife Refuge, home to

fantastic waterfowl, amazing shorebirds, spectacular raptors, and

beautiful songbirds. Beginner and advanced birders are welcome.

Fee is $50 per adult and $40 per senior.

Delaware and Raritan Canal Paddle

Thursday, April 26 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Paddlers will enjoy a relaxing trip along the quiet and still Canal, enjoying

the sights and sounds of this hidden gem of Somerset County.

Fee is $60 per person.

Saturday Bird Walks – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, April 28 from 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

Join a Naturalist on a trek along the trails of Lord Stirling Park looking for

migrant species that pass through the area on the way to Central

and South America.

The program is free.

Birding Identification Workshops – Warblers – NEW PROGRAM!

Saturday, April 28 from 9:15 A.M. to 10:15 A.M.

Family and friends age 8 and older with a parent will enjoy an opportunity

to begin, refine, or reinforce birding skills in this year-long series

of workshops focused on tips and tricks to identify various bird

species. This program will address warblers, the northeastern

United States’ most iconic bird..

Fee is $6 per person.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free. Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
