Environmental Education Center Programs

October 29 to November 4, 2018

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5002. or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org

CHILD/PARENT PROGRAMS

Tot Trek - FREE PROGRAM

Friday, November 2 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will leave their strollers behind for a

leisurely walk along the trails of Lord Stirling Park to enjoy the

natural beauty of spring in New Jersey.

CHILDREN/TEEN PROGRAMS

Swamp Kids

Thursdays, November 1, 8, 15, and 29 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Children age 8 to 10 will join a Naturalist to explore nature, expand

curiosity, and have fun in the great outdoors. Each week will

explore a different theme.

Fee is $24 per person for the 4-session program.

ADULT/FAMILY PROGRAMS

Meadowlands Mystery Birding Tour

Wednesday, October 31 from 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.

Adult birders will head to the Meadowlands to seek out migratory waders,

ducks, and winter raptors with the New York skyline as a

backdrop.

Fee is $40 per adult and $30 per senior.

Maple Sweets – NEW PROGRAM!

Saturday, November 3 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist in preparation for

maple syrup season, learning about maple trees, necessary

supplies, and techniques to collect.

Fee is $6 per person.

Forest Fitness Sundays

Sundays, November 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $20 for the 4-day program.

Family Nature Walk – FREE PROGRAM

Sunday, November 4 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk

through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
