Story Hour at the EEC
Story Hour at the EEC (Somerset County Park Commission)

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Pre-registration is required for programs and may be done by calling 908-722-1200, ext. 5002. or NJ Relay at 711 for individuals with a hearing or speech impairment. Registration is available online at www.somersetcountyparks.org.

CHILD/PARENT PROGRAMS

Bones, Bones, Bones

Tuesday, October 1 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will learn about creatures whose

bones are on the inside and on the outside.

Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child

Story Hour – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, October 5 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will listen to a Naturalist read an

environmental-based story and enjoy a short walk on the trails of

the EEC.

The Green Team – FREE PROGRAM

Saturday, October 5 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Children ages 12 to 15 - Is natural science a subject you find interesting?

Do you like the outdoors? Is the Great Swamp a place you like to

visit? If so, join the Environmental Education Center Naturalists

and contribute your talents to fun and educational projects and

special events.

ADULT/FAMILY PROGRAMS

Forest Fitness Tuesdays

Tuesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a Naturalist-led weekly walking group, enjoying

nature along the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $25 for the 5-day program.

Garden Discovery Tour – Untermyer Park & Gardens & Hudson River Museum

Thursday, October 3 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Adults will join a Naturalist to Untermyer Gardens, a hidden gem in

Yonkers, NY to tour The Walled Garden, visit The Vista, and the Temple of Love. At the Hudson River Museum visitors will tour the historic Glenview House and learn about the River.

Fee is $75 per adult and $65 per senior.

Bird Walks

Saturday, October 5 from 7:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M.

Adults will join a Naturalist on a stroll around the grounds of the EEC

seeking out the many migrant birds that pass through the area.

The walk is free and registration is not required.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free.

Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
