
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

Young Explorers Club
Mondays, October 7, 21, and 28 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.
Fee is $22 per pair and $11 per additional child for the 3-day session

Mondays, October 7, 21, & 28 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Children ages 5 to 7, who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will
study science and explore the natural world through games,
Naturalist-led activities, and more. Each week will focus on a
different seasonal theme.
Fee is $18 per person for the 3-day session.

Swamp Kids
Thursdays, October 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Children age 8 to 10 will join a Naturalist to explore nature, expand
curiosity, and have fun in the great outdoors. Each week will
explore a different theme.
Fee is $24 per person for the 4-session program.

Field Trips for the Fun at Heart - Caves of PA
Thursday, October 10 from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Adults will join Naturalists on an adventure into the dark in search of
stalagmites and stalactites at the Lost River Caverns and Crystal
Cave.
Fee is $70 per adult and $60 per senior.

By the Light of the Moon
Friday, October 11 from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
Led by a Naturalist, adventurers of all ages will explore the Great Swamp,
listening for animal sounds in the night while walking the swampy
trails beneath the stars. Walks will depart every 15 minutes
with concurrent indoor activities including live critters,
refreshments and more. (Rain date October 12.)

Bird Walks
Saturday, October 12 from 7:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M.
Adults will join a Naturalist on a stroll around the grounds of the EEC
seeking out the many migrant birds that pass through the area.

Forest Fitness Sundays

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along

Live Animal Show
Sunday, October 13 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
Family and friends of all ages are invited to join the Eyes of the Wild live
presentation of some of nature’s coolest creatures.
Pre-registration is not required. Suggested donation $5.

“The Great Swamp Experience,” on the lower level at the EEC, features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission Is free.
Please note that dog walking is not permitted on the trails at the Environmental Education Center.
