Environmental Education Center Programs

December 1 to 7

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature during the fall season in Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILD & CHILD/PARENT PROGRAMS

Young Explorers Club

Mondays, December 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will experience the wonders of

nature through outdoor activities that stimulate the five senses.

Fee is $30 per pair and $15 per additional child for the 4-day session.

KinderNats

Mondays, December 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 4:15 P.M. to 5:15 P.M.

Children ages 5 to 7 who are enrolled in kindergarten and first grade will

study science and explore the natural world through games,

Naturalist-led activities, and more.

Fee is $24 per person for the 4-day session.

Hibernation Migration

Thursday, December 4 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will join a Naturalist to find out

which animals will hang around for winter, which will head out of

town, and which will hibernate.

Fee is $10 per pair & $5 per additional child

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Forest Fitness

Tuesdays, December 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.

Adults are invited to join a weekly walking group, enjoying nature along the level trails of Lord Stirling Park.

Fee is $25 for the 5-day session.

Owl Prowl

Saturday, December 6 from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will explore the nocturnal world of the owl

with a PowerPoint presentation, pellet dissection and a night hike.

Holiday for the Birds

Sunday, December 7 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn which birds spend the holidays in

New Jersey, as they enjoy a winter walk on the trails of Lord

Stirling Park.

Fee is $10 per person

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
