Fit Learning Opens 1st NJ Location In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ —Two Hunterdon County locals have opened Fit Learning’s first New Jersey location in Basking Ridge.

Nicole Rasavage and Justine Brancato, both Board Certified Behavior Analysts with master's degrees in special education, first heard of the Fit Learning model during a doctorate program and immediately reached out to the founders to become part of the family.

Rasavage and Brancato opened the Basking Ridge location on June 1, which offers an educational model combining the science of learning, precision teaching, direct instruction, and curriculum-based-measurement into one comprehensive approach.

"The push in education today is content over competency. Many schools believe that exposing students to more information at younger ages eventually results in them acquiring enough knowledge to be successful," said Brancato. "Fit Learning takes the opposite approach and believes that learners need deliberate practice with academic skills. Fluency, which is a measure of speed and accuracy, is the heart of Fit Learning and the only true measure of proficiency.

"Just like a golfer needs to practice all of the components of his swing (stance, grip, arm position, follow through, etc.) to become an expert in it, learners must become fluent in the foundational skills they struggle with. It has been scientifically proven that once a skill is fluent, it will be with you forever," said Brancato.

"We average at least one year of academic growth in 40 hours of one-to-one highly individualized instruction," said Rasavage.

"This is not a band-aid. We aren’t preparing learners to get a good grade on a test or assessment; we are working on the underlying learning deficits. We want our learners out the door transformed," said Brancato.

Currently, the location offers Fit Reading for all ages and Lil’ Fits for ages 3 through first grade.
