Jewelry Stolen During Burglary Of Basking Ridge Home

Two Basking Ridge locals were also arrested for DWI and marijuana possession, according to the Bernards Township Police Blotter.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township Police reported making arrests for driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession and also reported burglaries to homes and vehicle recently.

On June 3 at approximately 11:26 a.m.: Officer Frank Girard conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle with an expired registration at the Exxon gas station on Martinsville Road. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man from Basking Ridge, was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of marijuana (under 50 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia and for operating an unregistered vehicle.

On June 3: A home on Butternut Lane was burglarized sometime during the overnight hours on Saturday night June 3. Preliminary investigation reveals that no one was home at the time forced entry was made. Taken was jewelry located in the home. Anyone who may have information should contact Detective Sgt. Mike Sweeney at 908-204-4618.

On June 3: A 2012 Toyota Highlander was stolen from a driveway on Ellis Drive during the overnight hours on Sunday, June 3. The East Hanover Police Department spotted and pursued the vehicle later that evening at which time the driver and occupant described as a black male and black female fled on foot and were unable to be apprehended. It was also discovered that a 2006 Honda Pilot in the driveway of the home was also broken into.

On June 3: Numerous motor vehicle burglaries occurred during the overnight hours of Sunday, June 3. Multiple vehicles were illegally entered in the northern section of the township to include Cherry Lane, Walnut Circle, East Craig Street, Ellis Drive and Berta Place. All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked. Taken were cash and other valuables left in the vehicles.

On June 5 at approximately 11:35 p.m.: Officer Philip Jasina arrested a 55-year-old man from Basking Ridge for DWI. He was driving on two flat tires when another motorist contacted police and he was subsequently stopped and arrested on Summit Drive.

"The Bernards Township Police would like to remind everyone to report suspicious activity observed by calling 908-766-1122," police stated. "Please keep vehicles locked and valuables out of sight. Pay particular attention to suspicious activity at neighbor’s homes."
