Join Swamp Search-Environmental Scavenger Hunt

April 24 at the Environmental Education Center

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center (EEC) will present the 9th annual Project E.A.R.T.H. (Environment • Awareness • Responsibility • Teaching • Hope) celebration on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 12:00 Noon to 4:30 P.M. at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

Project E.A.R.T.H – Swamp Search! is an exciting family-oriented scavenger hunt on the Environmental Education Center trails through Lord Stirling Park that will educate participants about the importance of the Great Swamp as an ecological and recreational resource.

Participants will head out on the trails starting at 12:00 Noon and returning by 3:00 P.M. to locate EEC Naturalists who will provide clues and fascinating environmental facts that will help answer scavenger hunt questions. Participants with the most correct answers will be eligible to play the EEC challenge game for exciting prizes at 3:15 P.M. The trails can be muddy so appropriate footwear is recommended. The scavenger hunt may be cancelled if there are thunderstorms.

Following the Scavenger Hunt at 3:45 P.M. Rick Mikula, “The Butterfly Guy,” will present an amazing program showcasing his fascinating butterfly exhibit with live butterflies.This indoor program will be held rain or shine.

Individuals, families, friends, scouts, and groups of all ages are invited to join the fun. All the activities for the day are free.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is located within Lord Stirling Park, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, and is nestled within 425 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. A swamp vivarium, and an environmentally based library are located within the Center itself.
