BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Independence Day is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on in and around Basking Ridge for 2023.

We gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Basking Ridge so you can start planning now.

July 4 Festivities

What: Montgomery Fireworks

  • Where: Montgomery High School, Front Lawn, 1016 Rt. 601, Skillman
  • When: Thursday, June 29, 6 to 9:45 p.m.

The town-wide community gathering celebrating our nation's independence will begin at 6 p.m. with games and vendor tables. Picnic blankets are encouraged. Music to follow and a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. For more information visit montgomerynj.gov.

  • What: The North Plainfield Fireworks
  • Where: West End Elementary School grounds, 447 Greenbrook Rd, North Plainfield
  • When: Saturday, July 1 at 5 p.m. (Rain date Sunday, July 2)

The event will include a DJ and music by CC Coletti, food, rides, face painters, and a blow-up obstacle course.

  • What: Franklin's Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks
  • Where: Franklin Township Municipal Complex at 475 DeMott Lane, Somerset
  • When: Monday, July 3 at 6 p.m.

This free event is open to the general public and will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. General event parking is available in the lawn area by the gazebo on DeMott Lane and Sampson G. Smith School. ADA Parking is available near the gazebo lawn area and the lot behind the animal shelter.

This family-friendly celebration will include food trucks, exhibitors from local township businesses, organizations, and children’s activities. Musical performances will be at the gazebo by the newly formed Township Jazz band (comprised of Franklin musicians), the Villagers Theatre and the featured band, Total Soul.

In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be rescheduled to Friday, July 7 at 6 pm.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and their own refreshments, however alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are not allowed.

  • What: Somerset County's Annual July 4th Fireworks Display
  • Where: North Branch Park on Milltown Road in Bridgewater
  • When: Tuesday, July 4, at 9:30 p.m.

Admission is free to July 4th celebration. In case of inclement weather, fireworks only will be held on Wednesday, July 5.

North Branch Park gates will open at 6 p.m. to allow vehicles to enter the park and families to picnic on park grounds. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m. Visitors should plan to arrive early. Milltown Road will be closed at around 9 p.m. Heavy car and foot traffic is expected.

The New York Bee Gees will perform the classic 70’s Bee Gees favorites along with other disco classics from that era at 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and 10 to 11 p.m.

The NJ 3rd Regiment Revolutionary War encampment will be onsite. Park visitors should bring lawn chairs or blankets while they enjoy time in the park before the Independence Day fireworks begin.

Food trucks will be available and picnic baskets are allowed, but alcohol is prohibited. Personal fireworks are not allowed.

Milltown Road will remain closed at the conclusion of the fireworks for 30 minutes to one hour while local neighborhood pedestrians walk from the park. Bridgewater Police will be on hand to assist park staff with traffic flow.
