Kate Grochala Resigns From Bernards Township Committee
The Republican party has 15 days to submit 3 nominees to the township committee to fill Grochala's vacancy.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Republican Kathleen Grochala has resigned from the Bernards Township Committee, effective April 3, announced Municipal Clerk Christine Kieffer at the Tuesday night meeting.
"Kate shared with us, for personal reasons, she is stepping down and she wanted to thank everyone for their support. She said it's been such a great honor to serve the community. We will recognize her at an appropriate time in the future. Again we acknowledge and thank her for what she has done for our town," said Deputy Mayor Jennifer Asay at the April 11 Township Committee meeting.
Grochala was elected in November 2020 when she ran alongside James Baldassare Jr.

"It was an absolute honor and a privilege to have Kate as a running mate. We went through a lot when we were going to get elected. She is one of the most caring people I have ever come across. She has done innumerable things for our police department on a regular basis whether it's bringing them lunch or dinner," said Baldassare Jr.
Grochala's term was set to expire in December.

Per New Jersey State Statute 40a:16-11, the Republican party will need to submit three nominees to fill the vacancy to the Township Committee no later than 15 days from Grochala's vacancy, said Kieffer.
The Township Committee will then have to select a successor to fill Grochala's vacancy within 30 days.
"I am so thankful for her service," said Committeewoman Janice Fields. "We are so lucky to have her serve but also lucky to have her as a resident... She is the most caring, sweetest person I know next to my mother. She just has a heart of gold. We are really going to miss her."
