Eco-School Club Receives Trees from Bernards Township Shade Tree Commission

William Annin Middle School Eco-School Club Earns "Green Flag Recipient Through Eco-Schools USA"

In honor of Arbor Day, the William Annin Middle School Eco-School Club read a proclamation in front of two new Hacklebarny trees that were donated by the Bernards Township Shade Tree Commission. The club, headed by 7th grade Science teacher, Evona Panycia, donned their new tee shirts and shovels for the ceremony. The children learned about the tree variety and were very excited to add this planting to their list that earned them a "Green Flag Recipient through Eco-Schools USA" award.

These trees are just the beginning of the plans from the beautification committee chair Tina Del Giorno. Two more trees will be planted in the near future. In the fall, an international organization named OISCA (The Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement-International) will donate 5 cherry trees. By that time, local and international (from Japan) OISCA representatives will fund the plantings and also be present at dedication ceremonies.

The ShadeTree Commission is excited about the Children's Forest Program to involve and educate the children and community about the environment through hands-on environmental projects.
