Mixed Results for Ridge In Thrilling Contest Against Pingry

The Team has two more meets remaining against Bernardsville and Mount St. Mary.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — In a much-anticipated, weather-delayed meet against local rivals Pingry on Monday, the Ridge Girls swim team secured a big win, scoring 97 points to Pingry’s 73.

The win gives Ridge Girls a 6-0 record for the season so far, with two dual meets remaining. Ridge Boys team battled hard against a strong Pingry line-up but, despite a close-run contest, ultimately lost 97-73.

Ridge Girls won two out of three relays at the meet. The quartet of Giulia Beverini, Eszter Kiss, Emily Thompson and Maggie Luo came first in the medley relay with Kiss, Natalie Hillebrecht, Beverini and Thompson coming first in the 400 free relay.

Further wins for the Girls included Thompson in the 200 IM and 100 fly, Beverini in the 100 free and 100 back, and Kiss in the 50 free.

In the Boys meet, the relays were incredibly close with Pingry edging Ridge into second place in all three races. The Ridge quartets were as follows: 200 medley relay - Jack Thompson, Gabe Beverini, Mitch Ferraioli and Kevin Cao, 200 free relay Beverini, Anson Chen, Youssef Elnawawi and Cao, and 400 free relay Chen, Orion Wang, Elnawawi and Ferraioli.

In the individual events, Beverini secured a dominant victory in the 200 IM, and in the 400 free Chen and Ferraioli took first and second, well ahead of the rest of the field. Cao won a tightly contested 100 breast race.

The team faces Bernardsville on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at SHY for the annual Senior Night and Ridge Girls face Mount St Mary on Monday, Jan. 29 at Jersey Aquatic Center.
