Pastries, Muffins Stolen During Basking Ridge Cafe Burglary
Police are looking for someone "who had a belly ache" and may have been involved in the burglary at a Basking Ridge Cafe.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Bernards Township Police are looking for someone "who had a belly ache" and may have been involved in the burglary at a Basking Ridge Cafe.
Sometime between 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 and 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 24 someone went into the Whistle Stop Café at 553 South Finley Ave. and stole about $25 worth of pastry cakes and muffins, Bernards Township Police said.
A small piece of a multi-glass square pane window was also broken. The window was not point of entry point as police said the windows were fixed shut and can not be opened.

It is unknown how the burglar got inside the cafe as all the doors were reported to have been closed and locked, police said.
"There are no suspects currently. If you know of anyone who had a belly ache on the date and time above please contact this agency," police said.

On Jan. 18 at about 3:11 p.m.: Patrick Clare, 59, of Whitehouse Station was arrested for driving under the influence. Corporal Baxter observed a 2019 four-door black Jeep Cherokee speeding
on Martinsville Road. Corporal Baxter stopped the motor vehicle and while speaking with the driver, Clare, smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. Upon requesting Clare to step out of the vehicle and conversing with him while outside of the vehicle, Corporal Baxter smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Clare’s breath. After performing standardized field sobriety tests, it was determined that Clare was driving under the influence and placed under arrest. At police headquarters, Clare consented to the taking of his breath samples, his two samples of breath resulted in a reading of .15% blood alcohol content. Clare was issued motor vehicle summonses for speeding and driving under the influence.
On Jan. 29 at 9:20 p.m.: A resident of the 100 block of Irving Place reported a theft of a work laptop and other work supplies was taken from the parking lot where the resident’s vehicle was parked. The resident reported that the bag containing the work supplies was heavy so they left the bag against their vehicle in the parking lot as they went into their residence to ask a family member for assistance in carrying the bag. When the resident returned to retrieve the bag, it was no longer there. The laptop is the property of the Paterson School District and has an approximate value of $500.
