Details, ID Released In Pedestrian Hit By Train In Basking Ridge

The fatal crash occurred on Wednesday night causing the Gladstone Line train service to be suspended in both directions.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Details and the identification of a pedestrian hit by a NJ Transit train on Wednesday night have been released.

The pedestrian has been identified as Jonathan Wong, 30, of Eatontown, NJ Transit spokesperson Jim Smith told Patch.

Wong was struck and fatally injured by a train near the Lyons Station in Basking Ridge at about 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 19, Smith said.

Train 429 was on the Morris & Essex Gladstone Branch, which left Hoboken at 5:06 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Gladstone at 6:28 p.m. when the crash occurred.

There were 50 passengers and crew members on board with no injuries reported to them, Smith said.

The Gladstone Branch was suspended in both directions between Stirling and Gladstone. Cross honoring was in effect with private bus carriers on the Gladstone Branch.

The NJ Transit Police Department is leading the investigation.
