RHS Engineering Students Visit Harley Davidson Vehicle Operations Plant

Education; Schools; RHS

On December 14, 2016, 44 engineering students from Ridge High School's Technology Education department went on an unforgettable field trip to the Harley Davidson Vehicle Operations plant in York, PA.
Students were chaperoned by Mark Dotta, Steven Richards, and Frank Caccavale, who are all teachers of engineering, robotics, architecture, and fine woodworking.

During the trip, the chaperones were told multiple times by multiple Harley staff members and tour guides how fantastic, respectful, and engaged the students were! They could not believe that 44 high school students could be so well-behaved and welcomed us back with open arms. One tour guide told us that our students asked the best questions that he received in 15 years of giving tours!

The experience itself was one the students claim they will never forget. The tour takes visitors through the manufacturing of fuel tanks, frames and fenders, as well as many "employee only" areas in paint and polish. It was amazing to see this state-of-the-art facility running flawlessly, as thousands of technicians, engineers, and robots knew exactly what to do at all times. The trip served as a great supplement to classroom lessons on engineering.
