Ridge Boys Fencing Headed To State Championship

The reigning state champion Ridge (17-0) will face off against top-seeded Chatham (15-1) on Feb. 29 at Morris Hills High School.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The third-seeded Ridge boys fencing team defeated second-seeded Montclair in the state-semi finals on Thursday evening 15-12 to punch their ticket to the state championship.

Montclair was out of the gates early with a 4-0 lead over the Red Devils, but Ridge came back with a balanced attack in both foil and epee to secure the win.

Senior Alex Ligos and junior Girish Arul both went 3 for 3, and freshman Christopher Zheng added one win. The epee squad of senior Max Wang, junior Ethan Zhang, and sophomore Reid Kokenge each went 2 for 2. Sophomore Tadas Vilemaitis and sophomore Ben Schuchman also took 1 victory each against a very strong Montclair sabre squad.
