Ridge Boys, Girls Swim Teams Head To State Semifinals

​The Ridge Boys and Girls Swim Teams advanced to the third round of the state tournament after beating Phillipsburg on Thursday.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Ridge Boys and Girls Swim Teams easily advanced to the third round of the state tournament with decisive wins on Thursday at their home pool, the Somerset Hills YMCA.

The Boys beat Phillipsburg in all three relays: Garrett Gould, Dean Capizzi, Mitch Ferraioli and Andy Moss in the 200 medley relay, Jerry Zheng, Daniel Xia, Seif Elnawawi, and Garrett Gould won the 200 free relay, and Gabe Beverini, Anurag Bhat, Caden Lake and Kevin Cao prevailed in the 400 free relay.

The Boys won first place in most of the individual events: Kevin Cao in the 200 free, Garrett Gould in the 200 individual medley and 500 free, Jerry Zheng in the 100 free, Andy Moss in the 100 back, and Dean Capizzi in the 100 breast.

The Boys also had many decisive second-place finishes in individual events: Orion Wang in the 200 free and 100 breast, Gabe Beverini in the 200 individual medley, Jerry Zheng in the 50 free, Dean Capizzi in the 100 fly, Mitch Ferraioli in the 100 free, Seif Elnawawi in the 500 free, and Kevin Cao in the 100 back.

The Girls also prevailed across the board. All three relay teams came in first: Emily Wang, Emily Thompson, Eszter Kiss and Tracy Lu won the 200 medley relay, Giulia Beverini, Victoria Doucette, Tracy Lu, and Emily Thompson won the 200 free relay, and Giulia Beverini, Eszter Kiss, Charli Geary and Emily Wang won the 400 free relay.

The Girls also dominated their individual events, with many first-, second- and third-place finishes: In the 200 free, Emily Thompson won, followed by Niamh O'Sullivan and Ankita Bhat. In the 200 individual medley, Emily Wang won and Giulia Beverini took second. Eszter Kiss won the 100 fly followed by Tracy Lu. Giulia Beverini won the 100 free and Niamh O'Sullivan took third, Emily Thompson won the 500 free followed by Charli Geary in second, Emily Wang won the 100 back followed by Eszter Kiss, and Mia Capizzi won the 100 breast followed by Alex Hodge in second and Elissa Profaca in third.

With these wins, Ridge now faces Bridgewater for the divisional semifinals on Monday, Feb. 14 at the Bridgewater YMCA pool.
