Ridge Fencing Advances Into State Semifinals

Ridge boys fencers faced their biggest challenge to date as they took on West Windsor Plainsboro South.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge boys fencers faced their biggest challenge to date on Thursday evening as they took on West Windsor Plainsboro South for a chance to advance to the state semifinals.

With three starting foil fencers unavailable for the match Ridge pulled together as a team and showed an amazing effort to get the 14-13 victory.

Senior leadership on the saber squad showed through with senior David Elian going 3 for 3, and senior Daniel George going 2 for 3. Freshman Tadas Vilemaitis also got a crucial win, going 1 for 3.

The foil squad was down, but not out. Senior Colin Scerbo and sophomore Girish Arul each came away with an important win for the team.

On the epee strip, freshman Reid Kokenge went 3 for 3, sophomore Ethan Zhang was 2 for 2, and junior Ben Chang was 1 for 3.

Ridge takes on Wayne Hills in the semifinal round on Tuesday, February 21st with a chance to punch their ticket to the state finals. The action takes place at Ridge High School with a start time TBD.
