Ridge Junior Wins Bronze At World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championship

Competing for the USA, Americans Marcus Howard (19), Kwon Seung-Min (19), Justin Liu (17), and Ryan Shane(18) were the bronze medalists.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Ridge High School Junior Justin Liu raced to a bronze medal while competing for the USA in the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships held in Dresden, Germany.

Liu (17), is part of the USA Junior Men’s team. The team won the Bronze in the men’s 3000-meter relay on Sunday, Jan. 29. Americans included Marcus Howard (19), Kwon Seung-min (19), Liu, and Ryan Shane(18).

The last time USA Junior men were on the podium was back in 2017.

The World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships are an international junior-level short track speed skating event and held once a year in a different country.

Skaters perform individual races in the 500 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, as well as in the men’s and women’s 3000 meters relays.

The US Junior World Short Track Championships team consists of four men and four women. Liu is the youngest on the team and keeps his training in the local Garden State Speedskating club.

Liu bagged his US Junior Champion in 1000 meters during the 2022-2023 US Championship, and also represented the US to compete in the world junior 1000 meter. He advanced all the way to the semifinals and achieved a top 10 finish in Men’s 1000m junior world standing.
