BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Jia Aggarwal, a Ridge High School student, has been honored with the NJ Governor's Award in Arts Education for 2025.

"This award is a culmination of years of hard work, failure, and growth in the world of speech and debate. It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud to represent New Jersey's brightarts community. I'm grateful for the mentors, peers, and experiences that have shaped me into the debater I am today, and I look forward to continuing to use my voice to inspire and advocate for change," said Aggarwal.

This esteemed recognition celebrates outstanding contributions to the arts and highlights the importance of arts education in New Jersey.

The NJ Governor's Awards in Arts Education honors students who demonstrate exceptional talent, creativity, and commitment to the arts.

"Aggarwal has shown remarkable dedication through her achievements in speech and debate, particularly in Congressional Debate, where she has competed at the highest levels and has become a state champion. This award not only acknowledges her artistic achievements but also emphasizes the vital role that arts education plays in fostering creativity and innovation among young people," according to a release from the National Speech and Debate Association.

Aggarwal has been involved in various artistic endeavors, including her work for the Basking
Ridge Mayor, the New Jersey Representative from her district, and aids in running campaigns for
congressmen and assemblywomen across the state.

She demonstrates her ability to combine public speaking, critical thinking, and persuasive communication on a daily basis, honoring her community and government through political advocacy and representation by being a guest speaker for various youth advocacy groups and non-profit organizations, earning an executive position in a few.

She has also participated in numerous local and national competitions, winning five consecutive championships this year alone and qualifying for all three prestigious Grand Nationals.

Her dedication to her craft and her ability to thrive under pressure highlight her exceptional artistic development.
