“During the pandemic, mental health problems among young people have become an epidemic,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul Drake, liaison to Human Services. “Because of social distancing, remote learning and isolation, it’s now more difficult for teachers, counselors, or other adults who work with children to identify those youth who are experiencing mental health issues that stem from abuse.”

In this presentation, “Department of Children and Families and Community Working Together,” participants will learn about the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, how to identify commons signs of abuse and neglect in youth, when and how to report an incident of abuse, and what happens after the report has been made. Participants will also gain information about data from Somerset County that is specific to this topic.
