Somerset County To Host Public Zoom Meeting For AFN Advocacy

Are you a caregiver, provider, community or family member who is interested in advocating for the Access and Functional Needs (AFN) population? If so, join the Somerset County Human Services Department for a town hall event via Zoom on June 22, at 11 a.m. At the meeting, a Core Advisory Group (CAG) will be formed to help address issues and identify needs that the AFN population may have during an emergency. A problem-solving session will also occur. Click here to join the Zoom meeting.

The purpose of CAG is to identify what unmet needs the AFN community may have when an emergency occurs and to inform the county about those needs. CAG’s goal is to advocate for inclusive, fair, and realistic emergency management procedures that will be implemented for the betterment of the AFN community. Members will also assist those who are experiencing barriers to obtaining resources and information.

CAG is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) initiative. FEMA created the system that provides financial assistance and other resources for state and county entities after the presidential state of emergency has been declared.

Somerset County Department of Human Services is responsible for the administration and supervision of all divisions within the Department of Human Services and for various councils and advisory committees that help promote the social well-being of county residents.
