The Somerset County Office Of Youth Services And Zufall Health To Offer Free Workshop

SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Office of Youth Services and Zufall Health Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) are offering a free Zoom Workshop titled “Sexual Violence in the Latinx Community.” The program is for professionals who work in the field of human services. Participants will earn professional credits after completing the workshop.

Presenter Joyce Monserrate, an outreach worker for SASS and bilingual certified sexual violence advocate (CSVA), will discuss the risk factors for sexual violence in the Latinx community and the barriers that may hinder individuals from reporting incidents and seeking support. Participants will also gain a better understanding of how the diversity of culture and race within the Latinx community can impact how its members may experience sexual violence.

The free Zoom presentation will occur on Nov. 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. To register, email Gretchen Craig at gcraig@co.somerset.nj.us. Log in information will be emailed to registrants in advance. Participants will earn 1.5 professional development credits.

Zufall Health helps provide access to quality, affordable and culturally competent healthcare to people and communities who experience barriers to care. SASS at Zufall Health is a program that provides free and confidential services such as a 24/7 hotline at 908-526-7444, short- and long-term counseling, victim advocacy referrals and follow-up support, participation in a sexual assault response team (SART) and prevention and outreach education and events.

The Somerset County Youth Services Commission was established in 1981 to help improve the provision of services for youth who are either involved- or at-risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. The commission is responsible for overseeing needs assessment and planning, program monitoring, program development and education and training.
