The Environmental Education Center (EEC), 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, will be the location for a fun-filled weekend for children and their parents on Friday, October 11 and Sunday, October 13, 2019.

“By the Light of the Moon,” for family and friends of all ages, is scheduled to begin at 6:30 P.M. on Friday, October 11, 2019 (Rain date Saturday, October 12, 2019).

Led by a Naturalist, adventurers will explore the Great Swamp, listening for animal sounds and using their night vision to walk the swampy trails beneath the stars. Walks will depart every 15 minutes (6:30, 6:45, 7:00, 7:15, and 7:30) with concurrent indoor activities including live critters, refreshments and more.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required at 908-722-1200, ext. 5002 (NJ Relay 711), at www.somersetcountyparks.org, or in person at the EEC. Fee is $6 per person.

On Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. family and friends will enjoy a live animal show presented by Travis Gale of “Eyes of the Wild”, an exotic animal rescue that provides homes to over 175 animals and 60 different species from throughout the animal kingdom. Guests will meet some of nature’s most interesting creatures. Preregistration is not required. Suggested donation is $5 per person.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is located within Lord Stirling Park, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, and is nestled within 500 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. A swamp vivarium, and an environmentally based library are located within the Center itself.

“The Great Swamp Experience” on the lower level at the EEC features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp. The exhibit is open 7 days a week from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is free.
