St. Hubert's Takes In 39 Pets After Puerto Rico Earthquakes
A total of 116 pets were sent to Florida, Delaware and New Jersey from Puerto Rico. St. Hubert's took in 35 dogs and four cats.
NORTH BRANCH, NJ — St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center took in 39 at-risk shelter pets who were flown into Morristown Airport on Sunday from Puerto Rico after the earthquakes hit.
Nearly 2,000 earthquakes have slammed the island since Dec. 28, causing hundreds of buildings to crumble, forcing thousands to flee their homes and leaving millions without power.
A total of 116 pets were sent to Florida, Delaware and New Jersey from Puerto Rico to make room in the shelters there for other animals displaced by the quakes. The emergency transport flight was a joint effort of Wings of Rescue, GreaterGood.org and The Sato Project.

"We’re excited to find new loving homes for these dogs and cats in our care! Helping animals in need — especially after natural disasters — is and has been an important mission for St. Hubert’s. We welcomed animals from Puerto Rico shelters after the devastation of Hurricane Maria, and helped animals in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma as well," Director of Communications at St. Hubert’s Diane Ashton.
The dogs and cats at the shelter are just settling in, getting medical evacuations, and being cared for before they will be available for adoption.
