Ridge High School Students Graduate: Video

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — It may not be the traditional graduation Ridge High School students had hoped for but Thursday students received their diploma live on video during a restricted outdoor graduation ceremony. (Look below for the video to watch the graduation)

During the graduation ceremony each member of senior class of 2020 had to stay in their cars as they proceeded through the school campus to Ridge High's Lee Field. Students were then dropped off one-by-one to receive their diploma and be photographed on video.

The graduation began at 9 a.m. and continued throughout the day.

"I know that what we have planned for June 18 is not everything we would want but we are working hard to make it everything it can be," Bernards Township School Superintendent Nick Markarian said during a June 1 Board of Education meeting.

As Gov. Phil Murphy begins to ease coronavirus restrictions, Markarian said an in-person, more traditional-type, of graduation is being planned for Aug. 6. Details will be released closer to the date as Murphy's restrictions continue to change.

Markarian said he is asking "parents and seniors to pencil the Aug. 6 date in on their calendar."

Currently the limit on outdoor gatherings is 100. It will rise to 250 on Monday and to 500 on July 3. The increase to 500 on July 3 will pave the way for outdoor graduations to resume in July, as long as fewer than 500 people are outside. Read More: Gov.
