2 Car Crashes In Nutley: Drivers Hit Telephone Pole, Fire Hydrant

Nutley Police: A driver hit a telephone pole, breaking it in half. Another fled the scene with "heavy front-end damage."

NUTLEY, NJ — A pair of car crashes recently took place in Nutley, with a telephone pole and a fire hydrant taking damage in the process, authorities said Friday.

The Nutley Police Department released the following statements about each incident.

Jan. 8 – (Alexander Avenue) “Police responded to Alexander Avenue at 11:30 p.m. when a motorist struck a telephone pole. The vehicles airbag was deployed and the pole severed in half. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, as well as the resident’s lawn, shrubs and lighting. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, however, the driver reported losing consciousness prior to the accident due to an asthma attack.”

Jan. 13 – (Bloomfield Avenue, north of Centre Street) “Police called to the scene observed property damage as well a fire hydrant that had been struck. A witness reported seeing a silver vehicle fleeing the scene with heavy front-end damage. Police officers were able to follow debris, liquids and scratch marks in the roadway to the suspect’s residence in town, where the silver 2011 Nissan was located. He was issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and failure to report an accident.”
