Saint Dominic Academy students to continue athletic careers at college level

Three members of the Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City Class of 2012 will continue their athletic careers on the college level.  They gathered together along with their parents and coaches at the Academy’s Athletic Awards dinner held on Monday, May 14, 2012.

            Leandra Boney of East Orange, pictured (l) with her mother Jenny Campbell, signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her running career at St. Peter’s University. The Peahens, who have won the last two Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field titles under Coach Mike Massone, will be helped by Boney’s rapidly improving middle distance times.  She has been part of innumerable championship teams at the Academy and according to John Nagel, Athletic Director, “has contributed to the rewriting of the SDA record book this year.”

Pictured in the center is Sarah Sisk of Bayonne, along with her parents Eileen and James Sisk.  Sisk prepares for a transition to New York University where she will continue her Cross Country/Track and Field career working with Coach Nick McDonough.  Sisk was honored this year by the NJSIAA and New Jersey’s News 12 as one of the finest scholar athletes in the Garden State.  Nagel said, “Sarah has been a key part of eight county championship teams in her ten seasons at SDA and has won medals in nine states.”  She was recently selected as the St. Dominic Academy Scholar-Athlete award recipient.

Pictured on the right is Cecilia Sabbers of Bayonne with her parents William Sabbers and Mary Jo Trusso-Sabbers. Sabbers qualified for four Meet of Champions while at SDA and won eight county team titles during her ten seasons with the program. She will continue her scholastic and athletic career at The College of New Jersey. “Cecilia has been a championship performer and been part of numerous record setting teams during her time at the Academy,” said Nagel.
