Belleville Cop’s ‘Quick Thinking’ Helps Save Life During Medical Emergency
Here's what earned Jamilly Rivera a nod as the department's latest "Officer of the Month."

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A Belleville police officer recently helped to save the life of a resident suffering a medical emergency – earning a nod as the department’s latest Officer of the Month.
Jamilly Rivera nailed down the honors for February, with the Belleville Police Department praising her “quick thinking and composure under pressure.”

“On February 10, 2026, Officer Rivera responded to a 9-1-1 call for an unknown emergency at a residence in town. Upon arrival, she quickly determined that a medical emergency was occurring and located an unresponsive individual without a pulse. Officer Rivera immediately began administering CPR and continued lifesaving efforts until Belleville Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and assumed care. The individual was transported to a local hospital where they were successfully resuscitated.”
“Officer Rivera’s quick thinking, composure under pressure, and exceptional application of her training played a critical role in saving a life that day,” the police department reported.

Rivera’s bilingual skills also proved invaluable while communicating important information to responding EMS personnel, police added.
“Officer Rivera’s dedication to duty, professionalism, and commitment to the community make her highly deserving of this recognition,” authorities said.
