Belleville Man Helped N.J. Mom Rob Her Child’s Father: Police

Newark police arrested a Belleville man after he and three other suspects allegedly helped a woman rob her child's father on New Year's Eve.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Newark police arrested a Belleville man this week after he and three other suspects allegedly helped a woman rob her child’s father on New Year’s Eve, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the 33-year-old victim told officers that his child’s mother – along with four men – robbed him at gunpoint around 9 p.m., assaulting him and stealing his car, money and telephone.

The two parents had legally separated prior to the incident, police said.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident and refused medical treatment, authorities stated.

Newark police arrested the child’s mother, Genesis Bonano, 19, of Elizabeth, on New Year’s Eve at a North Newark home shortly after the alleged robbery.

Police arrested one of the male suspects, Adner Oquendo, 21, of Belleville, on Friday without incident in a West Runyon Street residence.

Authorities have charged Bonano and Oquendo with robbery, carjacking and conspiracy. An investigation is active and ongoing, with police continuing to search for the remaining suspects.
