Belleville May Get Wawa Early Next Year, Developer Says

There may be a second Wawa store coming to Essex County, a report said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — There may be a second Wawa store coming to Essex County as early as next year, a report said.

The possible destination for the proposed store and gas station would be an 18.7-acre plot at 11 Franklin Avenue in Belleville next to Clara Maass Medical Center, according to plans approved by the township earlier this year, NorthJersey.com reported Tuesday.

Rochelle Park-based Tulfra Real Estate, which owns the property in a partnership with Hampshire Companies, said Wawa is anticipated to break ground “early next year,” NorthJersey.com reported. (Read the full article here)

When Essex County’s first Wawa location in Maplewood arrived, it came to the tune of a grand opening that was attended by several elected officials, including County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr., New Jersey Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Essex County Freeholder Wayne Richardson, Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca and the other four members of the Maplewood Township Committee, India Larrier, Nancy Adams, Greg Lembrich and Ian Grodman.

"Wawa began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey; and transitioned to a mill and bleachery in the mid-1860's. In 1902, Wawa started a dairy farm and processing plan in Wawa, PA; and in 1964 the first Wawa food market was opened in Folsom, PA."

The company employs more than 22,000 associates, serves more than 400 million customers and sells more than 190 million cups of coffee every year, according to its website.
