Belleville, Nutley Weather Update: More Snow, Schools Delayed Tuesday

BELLEVILLE-NUTLEY, NJ — Keep those snow shovels handy in Belleville and Nutley.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there’s a likelihood of snow, freezing rain and sleet on Tuesday in the two towns. A winter weather advisory, a hazardous weather outlook and a coastal flood statement were in effect for the area.

SCHOOLS IN BELLEVILLE, NUTLEY

The Belleville Public School District had a 90-minute delayed opening on Tuesday, Jan. 16 due to the inclement weather forecast.

The Nutley Public School District also operated on a delayed opening schedule for Tuesday. All zero period classes, morning Extended Day and morning Pre-School were canceled.

CODE BLUE

Essex County has declared a “Code Blue” alert until 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 due to the frigid temperatures. Shelters and warming stations are open in Newark, Montclair, Irvington and East Orange. Read More: 'Code Blue' Shelters Open In Essex County (See The List)

LOCAL FORECAST FOR BELLEVILLE AND NUTLEY

Here’s what is in store for Nutley and Belleville this week, according to the NWS forecast (as of Tuesday morning):

Tuesday: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3pm, then a chance of snow. High near 30. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Northeast wind around 9 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tuesday Night: Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 17. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 26. Wind chill values between 5 and 15. West wind 8 to 13 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a steady temperature around 24. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. West wind around 10 mph.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow after 1am. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 29.

Friday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 31. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Blustery.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 18. Blustery.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 31.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 20.
