Belleville Sees Main Break, Some Should Boil Water: Officials

Some residents and businesses may lose pressure. Boil water for 24 hours as a precaution once it returns, Belleville officials said.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — Belleville town officials are advising some residents to boil their water as a precaution after a main break near Franklin and Belleville avenues caused service disruptions on Monday. The break also forced the closure of a local school, authorities said.

According to Belleville municipal officials:

“Residents and businesses from Clara Maass Drive to Joralemon Street and from Union Avenue to Montgomery Street may experience little or no water pressure. As a precaution, please boil water for 24 hours once water service is restored. For more information, please contact the Town Manager’s Office at 973-450-3322.”

The Belleville Police Department said Monday morning: “The shut down for repair will impact the area south of Belleville Ave. and west of Franklin Ave. with severely reduced water pressure and flow.”

Belleville School Superintendent Richard Tomko issued an alert early Monday morning that School #10 is closed on Monday, March 19 due to the water main break.

Belleville also saw another “major” water main break in January. That break – which took place near Washington and Belleville avenues – caused road closures and sapped water pressure from several homes and businesses.
