A Jersey Girl's Thought On The Olympic Games

Although Jordan Wieber did not make the all around gymnastics final she has accomplished many other features in her first year in senior level and can use the London 2012 games as motivation for 2014.

With the Olympic women’s gymnastic all round now in the books you can’t help but think about Jordyn Wieber, who’s Olympic dream came crashing down at the team qualifiers on day two of the Olympics.

Wieber’s Olympic dream might have not been fulfilled but her Olympics haven’t been bad either.  She got the opportunity to compete in the world’s biggest sporting event for her country. All eyes were on team USA and Wieber became a part of history along with her teammates Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney.

The Olympic experience may have not been the way Wieber planned but she made it happen and still has more to come. She was a part of the team that made history by winning a gold in the team finals, a feature that the US had not been able to make since the magnificent seven in Atlanta 1996. The now acclaimed fab five won the US’s second gold medal in team competition and the team made the US flag fly high above with the star spangled banner playing in the background.

Wieber can now call herself an Olympic champion regardless of not competing in the all round final. Regardless of an Olympic rule that in reality may not feature the best 24 best competitors. Wieber has another opportunity to add more success in her first Olympic games, in the floor final.

Wieber has achieved plenty of accomplishments in just her first year of competing in the senior level. She became a World champion with the same teammates that were standing with her receiving their gold medal on Tuesday night, with the exception of Ross in 2011. She won her first major title in her as a rookie and came out world champion.

The Olympic all round final might have not been possible in London 2012 but at a young age of 17 Wieber can keep competing and use these Olympic games as motivation for 2014. She went in as world champion and came out a champion for her work and her support for her teammates. All of her latest successes can keep her motivated to make that Olympic dream a reality in Rio de Janeiro in 2014.
