Over 250 Volunteers Create Winter Wonderland for 60+ Participating Families

JANUARY 26, 2013, MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ -- Liquid Church of NJ hosted the Winter Carnival for Special Needs Childrentoday at L’Affaire Fine Catering in Mountainside, NJ. The event was specifically planned for families with children withspecial needs who live in the region.

The event provided a day out for over 60 families with fun activities and games that their whole family could enjoy. Familieswho have been served by the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and New Brunswick, NJ were invited toparticipate in the free event.

Tim Lucas, lead pastor of Liquid Church said, “We wanted to provide the children and their families a time where they canfully enjoy a fun-filled day out together. We’re planning every detail so that the families can fully focus on their loved onestoday in a safe and embracing environment.”

Over 250 volunteers from Liquid Church helped transform the catering hall into a festive winter carnival atmosphere. Eachfamily was assigned a volunteer guest guide to provide support for each child to participate in the activities and games.Activities were specifically designed to be sensory friendly and accessible to all participants. Noise cancelling headphoneswere made available, as well as a chill space provided to offer the chance for the children to take a break from the activitiesas needed. Families left the event with carnival food staples such as hot dogs and cotton candy, prizes, but most of all, feelingenergized by the attention given to each child.

Liquid Church is growing its heart around families who are affected by special needs. We are learning what it takes tobecome a welcoming place for those with special needs. As our ministries grow, so does our need for volunteers. The LiquidKids program is now training and recruiting volunteers who have experience working with children with special needs. Thiswill provide an opportunity for all members of the family to participate in the church experience on Sunday mornings 9:30am and 11:30 am at the New Brunswick and Nutley campuses of Liquid Church, and 9am, 10:30am, and 12 noon at theMorristown campus location.
