Business Spotlight: Cassandra's Salon

Jorge and Cassandra Vega are happy to be in Belleville. Former owners of two prior salons in Newark - Original Cassandra's Beauty Salons #1 and #2 - the couple sold both, spent some time in Florida, and then New Jersey beckoned again.

 They opened Original Cassandra’s Beauty Salon #3 in February, 2011:

 Q. How has business been thus far?

 A. Cassandra: “Good.”

      Jorge: “Good. It's been picking up, especially with the people in town.”  

Q.  How long have you been in the business?

 A. Jorge: “Cassandra is originally from the Dominican Republic, but was raised in Manhattan. And she’s been in the business for over 30 years.” 

 Q.  Why did you open in Belleville?

 A. Cassandra: “A customer of mine told me this place was for rent, said it was good. We checked it out and took it.”

     Jorge: “We found ourselves in a good area.”

     Cassandra: “It’s quiet,” says Cassandra. ”We plan on moving to town, to be closer to the business.”

 Q.  How was your opening preparation?

  A. Jorge: “I did the floors and painted. Cassandra picked out the colors for both. It took about 6 months."

 Q.  What do you specialize in?

 A. Cassandra: "Unisex and children’s haircuts, hair coloring and highlights, manicure and pedicures, perms and relaxers, eyebrow waxing."
