Car Burglaries Continue In Nutley; Police Issue Advisory
"With the weather changing, we urge drivers to never leave your vehicle running unattended."
NUTLEY, NJ — A wave of car burglaries continues in Nutley, authorities say.
The Nutley Police Department issued an advisory about an “increase in burglaries to autos” last week, warning local vehicle owners to be extra vigilant, especially as the seasons change and people start to warm up their cars before hitting the road.
According to a statement from Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo:

“Unlike the usual thefts in which actors enter unlocked cars, we have responded to several attempted burglaries to homes in an effort to locate keys for targeted vehicles. Police have responded to Hillside Avenue, Povershon, Rutgers, Whitford and Bloomfield Avenue over the past several days. We have increased patrols throughout the township and need residents to remain vigilant. Police made one arrest and identified another actor this week.”
“We are working with neighboring agencies who are experiencing similar thefts and will continue our coordinated efforts,” Petracco and Strumolo said.
Petracco said Nutley police are advising residents to be vigilant and secure their homes and vehicles.

“With the weather changing, we urge drivers to never leave your vehicle running unattended,” Petracco added.
Authorities said that anyone who sees “suspicious activity” can contact the Nutley Police Department – but should never approach the suspects. People can call 973-284-4940 or contact 911.
Nutley police issued a similar warning in September, stating that patrols had been increased in light of a jump in vehicle burglaries. Read More: Nutley Cops Beef Up Patrols After Increase In Thefts From Vehicles
