Car Thefts, Burglaries Continue In Nutley; Police Offer Safety Tips
Nutley PD: Several cars left idling near convenience stores have been stolen. Burglaries have been reported involving unlocked vehicles.
NUTLEY, NJ — Several cars left idling near convenience stores in Nutley have been stolen, and “numerous” burglaries have been reported involving unlocked vehicles, police announced Friday.
According to the Nutley Police Department, residents have reported several thefts from their cars over the past few weeks. Most of the vehicles were left unlocked.
In addition, several vehicles that were left idling near local convenience stores have been stolen, authorities said.

“Please turn off your engine and lock your doors when leaving your vehicle unattended,” Nutley police advised.
Nutley police said that motion detection lighting may be a deterrent for car burglars and thieves.

According to police, recent incidents reported in the township include:
Jan. 22 – (Race Street) “The victim observed actors gaining access to their vehicle from footage obtained from their Ring doorbell. The actor was described as a male, wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black jacket. They are viewed exiting the victim’s Acura and then entering a small blue/black SUV driven by another actor.”
Jan. 25 – (East Centre Street) “The victim stated that when they returned to their vehicle this morning, they noticed their rear passenger side window had been removed from the car. Officers observed pry marks on the top of the window that was found in the back seat. It was cracked and fully removed from the door frame. Nothing was taken from the vehicle, as there were no valuables left inside. The Detective Bureau was advised and responded to process the scene.”
