If you're a fan of acoustic blues, this show should have you salivating. With a new album, Shake 'em On Down, A Tribute to Mississippi Fred McDowell, due out early in 2011 there is more than enough for any music enthusiast to chew on. As Mike Jurkovic (Folk And Acoustic Music Exchange) wrote following the release of her previous album, Blues Walkin' Like A Man, A Tribute to Son House, Rory's "...as feisty, fierce and compelling as the masters she honors and interprets." Born in Princeton, NJ and raised for the most part in a home on Sullivan Street in NYC, Rory at the age of fourteen became part of the Sunday jam sessions in Washington Square Park.
Then, one day in 1964 she heard an album called "Really The Country Blues," and from that moment on her life was dedicated to learning how to play blues. At fifteen in the middle of the 10th grade she left home, driving to California with Stefan Grossman and two other travelers*. Today "...she's arguably the top slide player on the planet, bar none..." (Mojo Flucke, PhD, Bullz-eye). And on the 14th of January Rory's ours. Get your tickets early!
