
In the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, unfolds this darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely woman in her early forties. Mag, her manipulative, aging mother, interferes in Maureen's first and possibly final chance for a loving relationship, setting in motion a train of events that leads inexorably towards the play's terrifying dénouement. This play won four Tony awards and the 1998 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play.
The play contains adult language and themes, and is not suitable for children.
The cast includes Jean Kuras of Glen Ridge, Nina Lionetti of Westwood, Andrew Young of Old Bridge, and Jordan Zaretsky of South Amboy.
Evening performances of "The Beauty Queen of Leenane are on April 13, 14*, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. Matinees are on April 15, 22 and 28.
The April 13 performance is for the benefit of Nutley Family Service Bureau.
Tickets are $15, with a $2 discount for senior citizens and students.
*For the Saturday, April 14 performance, $22 tickets include a post-show wine-and-cheese session with the cast.
