Facebook 'Friend' Rips Off Nutley Resident For $25K: Police
A Nutley resident was defrauded of $25,000 by a Facebook "friend of a friend," police say.

Nutley, NJ – A Facebook “friend” allegedly ripped off a Nutley resident for more than $25,000, police say.
According to the Nutley Police Department, the resident told officers that she received a friend request on Facebook who she believed was a “friend of a friend.”
After two months of communicating with the man, the woman sent him more than $25,000 for “various reasons” via Money Gram at his request, police stated.

Detectives are investigating the incident, and have issued a warning to other residents that may be tempted to wire funds.
“Scam artists are constantly creating new and innovative ways to lure, entice and befriend unsuspecting victims,” the Nutley Police Department stated. “Any questions regarding the validity of the person requesting money should be directed to police.”
