Here’s How Nutley Will Use $180K In Federal Block Grant Funding
Over the past decade, Nutley has gotten more than $1.8M in community development block grant funds. See what the latest wave will pay for.

NUTLEY, NJ — Over the past decade, Nutley has gotten more than $1.8 million in community development block grant (CDBG) funding to pay for building construction and road repairs. And the latest round of grants will help the township continue to improve its local infrastructure, officials say.
The Township of Nutley recently announced it has received $180,825 in funding via a 2023 CDBG award, which will go towards the “reconstruction and resurfacing” of Ravine Avenue.
The CDBG program is funded by the federal government and distributed via the Essex County Division of Housing and Community Development, which awarded $5.8 million in CDBG and emergency solution grants (ESG) to 10 municipalities and 28 organizations in the county this year.

According to Kathy Rempusheski, the township’s QPA/CDBG coordinator, Nutley has received a total of $1,888,939 in CDBG funds over the past 10 years. Major improvements to municipal buildings and roads throughout the township have been made possible thanks to the funding.
The funds received over the past decade have made for the addition of an ADA-accessible elevator at the Nutley Public Library, an ADA pathway at Glotzbach Memorial Park and an ADA-accessible restroom at the Public Safety Building, as well as helping to pay for the resurfacing of multiple roads throughout the township.

“The grants we have received over the years have funded many roadway reconstruction projects, along with other building improvements without any cost to the local taxpayer,” Nutley Mayor Joseph Scarpelli said.
“Our capital improvement program is greatly enhanced by utilizing this federal funding,” Scarpelli said.
