Man Robbed Taxi Driver In Nutley, Left Suitcase Behind: Police

A New York resident robbed a taxi cab driver, but dropped his suitcase at the scene of the crime, Nutley police say.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police have identified a New York man as the suspect who allegedly robbed a taxi cab driver and dropped his suitcase at the scene of the crime earlier this month, authorities say.

According to the Nutley Police Department, the driver told officers that the robbery took place on Aug. 2 when he picked up a male passenger in Belleville and was directed to a bank on Franklin Avenue.

When the cab stopped, the man exited the vehicle, grabbed his suitcase and ran off, police said.

But that wasn’t enough for the alleged fare-skipper, who then returned to the taxi, reached through the window, pushed the driver and stole the day’s proceeds out of the door panel, police said.

The suspect then took off running north on Franklin Avenue, dropping his suitcase behind as he fled, the cab driver told police.
